Bayfield is known for some of the best boating in the world, because of the shelter of the Apostle Islands. The clear water between the Apostle Islands stretches over two miles and reaches depths of over one hundred feet. The Apostle Islands' gentle effect also warms up the beaches to a temperature great for swimming in July and August. This shelter, along with the gentle sand beaches, provide safe landings to enjoy the Islands.

Boaters are thrilled at the experience of reaching six working lighthouses scattered throughout the Apostle Islands, picnicing on the shores, or hiking in the woods.
